Although Miles grew up with a drum set and percussion in the United States, it was not until he was 17 that he first heard the sounds of the tabla. He was inspired and began his studies of the tabla under maestro Abhiman Kaushal, even spending six months in Hyderabad, India under the tutelage of Abhiman Ji's late Guru, Pandit Nandkumar Bhaltouande. In 2004 he graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in ethnomusicology and went on to obtain his M.A. in ethnomusicology from the University of California, Riverside in 2009. Miles has performed all over the world with many world-renowned musicians including Ustad Shujaat Khan, Yusef Lateef, Adam Rudolph, Bennie Maupin, and Hassan Hakmoun. Currently, Miles teaches tabla in San Diego and is an Artist-Teacher in Residence for the Center for World Music.
