Title:

08.01.2010 - 08.01.2010
Roxy Jazz - 台北市 Taipei

Like an ethereal dream, Flâneur Daguerre has a cool elegance and mysterious charm that pulls you into the story of each song.

Flâneur Daguerre takes the jazz quartet and spices it up with a variety of styles and influences; everything from Bach to Björk, Ornette Coleman to Astor Piazzolla to the Ramones, with a touch of electronica and house, at the intersection of where Europe's old melodies meet today's forward-thinking improvisers.

Flâneur daguerre

Louis Goldford | saxophone, samples
Ryohei Kanemitsu | electric sitar
莊嘉維 Kelvin Chuang | bass
Weichung Lin | drums

Ryohei, a.k.a. Sitar Yo, has been in Taipei for over 2 years now playing Indian music in groups such as Shantaal, with Waka, the tabla player who is very popular here. Both of them are Japanese-born and lived in India studying folk music extensively before coming here. Yo brings the flavors of Indian scales, concepts of improvisational space, and electronics to our group.

Kelvin is one of Taipei's finest bass players. He's shared the stage with singer Tammy Tang, among others. Equally adept in classical as well as jazz settings, Kelvin also plays in the Taipei Symphony Orchestra, as well as numerous traditional Chinese music groups around town.

Weichung plays in countless jazz groups around Taipei. He's a graduate of Berklee School of Music in Boston where he studied jazz and music production. In addition to his great command over the jazz vernacular, Wei also comes from a healthy background of indie rock that adds a freshness to some of our selections.
