What do you do when the New Years resolutions are all over but the hangover is still there? You come to Sappho and drink with us!...

"Like an ethereal dream, Flâneur daguerre has a cool elegance and mysterious charm that pulls you into the story of each song."
-Alyson Schill, Roxy Entertainment

Flâneur daguerre takes the jazz quartet and spices it up with a variety of styles and influences; everything from Bach to Björk, Ornette Coleman to Astor Piazzolla to the Ramones, with a touch of electronica and house, at the intersection of where Europe's old melodies meet today's forward-thinking improvisers.

Since there have been some questions lately about our name...

flâneur = a wanderer/observer of a city from the outside (according to Baudelaire)

daguerre = surname of Louis Daguerre, who invented the early photographic process "daguerrotype."

...So... Our group, comprised of expats & Taiwanese, often observe our Taipei surroundings and relate to them as does the flâneur. We choose each song based on what presents the best "picture" of its time and place, and reassemble each song into the constellation of time + space that is our setlist. It's a process that comes from philosopher Walter Benjamin. We hope you enjoy!
